Thursday Open Game 29 August 2024

Congrats to Brent/Roslyn and David/Bates for winning our NAP game today! Note that Brent, David and Nancy are all C strat players.

I am off to see my new granddaughter!

Wednesday 28 August 2024! last game before Labor Day!  Happy Labor Day everyone!

Hello All!  Today we had a 88 deg Plus day on the last Wednesday in August.  We had 5 full tables and played a Howell movement where every pair played every other pair.  We voted to play 18 hands rather than the 27 which was getting us out after 4 pm.  Today we got out a few minutes before 3.  Every body did very well, but our First place team was Pat and Sherry, followed by Bill and Jack, and a tie for 3rd place with Sid, Bobbie,  Audrey and Carolyn!

Marion brought a person new to North Hampton - Jim Nay from Exeter.  He played with John Burnap and did pretty well.  We hope he comes again and brings a couple of his friends!

See you in September (there's a song with that name?)

 Tuesday August 27, 2024

We had a small turnout today for both the Advanced beginner and Beginner sessions.  Only 5 people for the adv beginner lesson and only 3 tables for the beginner pupil game.  In the Advanced beginner lesson we introduced bidding in the balancing seat.  In the beginner lesson. we discussed rebidding when looking for a major fit after an open of one of a minor.  I will be out next week, but Suzanne will be here to give a beginner lesson.  There will be NO ADVANCED BEGINNER LESSON NEXT WEEK.  I will be back the following week.

We had only three tables in a Howell Movement which left us with a final round where all three tables had to share the same set of three boards.  Thank all of you for bearing with us.

Bill S and Phil S won today with a nice 60%  and John B and Colette S came in second with 55%.  See you in two weeks!  ---Carl

Thursday Open Game 22 August 2024

We had another fun 6-1/2 table Howell movement today. Congrats to Joyce/Carl for first in A, Andi/Judy for first in B and Nancy & Nancy for first in the C strat.

Nest week's lesson is on Lebensohl. This is a difficult convention to learn, but it pays big dividends and has multiple uses in your bidding. Please let me know if you have ant conventions or lessons which you would like me to review.

Wednesday, 21 August 2024 - A lovely August Day.  We had only 4 and a half tables, which a few of us thought might be just 2 tables at 7 minutes of Noon..  Please try to get to the Hall about 8 minutes before the game not 4 minutes.  Unfortunately the internet at Centennial hall was down for the day, so sorry about the late posting.  Our winners were Susanne and Paul followed closely by Bobbie and Sid(who jostled Pat and Sherry out by playing hand 6 after everyone else left) , then Pat and  Sherry.   Shipwreck and Jack, were contending for the 9th place (do they think 9th is better than 1st?) So many times they came in first.  The Blue Moon must have fouled up their communication!  We had some interesting hands and even a Unbid Grand Slam,(Board 7)  how we could have bid that is a mystery, but our lessons and teacher on Tuesday, Carl W, might be able to shed some light on.  He has some advanced beginner lessons (really intermediate) and some fabulous Saturday bridge camps!

We had a grand time and thank you for not switching hands or putting the cards in a pile on any of the plays!

Hand 6 was played late and the scores were included in the final result, but this JPEG, apparently does not have the 4th result, since it was played after most of you went home and I did not realize the bid did not make one of the software corner.   The top two couples were less than 1/4 point apart, so the game was really close!

thank you all for coming!  You are all Winners!

see you next Wednesday!

 Tuesday August 20, 2024

We had another lesson on leads against NT in the Advanced Beginners Lesson and a lesson on bidding and responding to one of a minor in the Beginners Lesson.  Next week we will continue have a lesson on leads against a suit contract in the advanced beginners lesson and a lesson on bidding and responding to one of a major.  There will be no advanced lesson on September 3 as I will be out of town at a regional tournament.  Suzanne will conduct the beginners lesson and pupil game on September 3.

We had 5,5 tables and played 9 rounds of 2 in our pupil game.  The Cullys were the winners with 64.07% and Colette S and David R came in second with 56.07% while Wynne G and Betty L tied Martha R and Sue Hills  for third place at 51.57%.

NOTE: For some reason, known only to the computer gremlins, the last two boards form round nine didn't originally get loaded into my computer from the bridgemate program even after I told it to do so TWICE before I posted the results.  Thanks to Melissa Vokey for pointing out the problem so that I could correct it.

I had a great time as usual and hope you did too!  See you next week!

 Open Game 15 August 2024

 Wednesday 14 August 2024

We had a fabulous 5 table 9 round, 3 boards a round Howell movement.  The pair that came in first was a last minute Hookup- Colleen Bakker and Carolyn Salmon!  with a 60.65% score, followed by a tie by Bill and Jack and Ann and Paul with a 59.72%% score. and close behind were Penny and Rick!  The top 5 pairs were jockeying for supremacy the whole afternoon.  Who knows what would happen with another 3 boards?

Congatulations to you all.  It was a tough fight the whole day even for 5th, 6th 7th and 10th!

we had a lovely day.  no Rain, No noise, no interferences!  thank everyone for the lovely calm afternoon!

 Tuesday August 13, 2024

We had two and a half tables at the Advanced Beginners' lesson where we discussed opening leads against suits and NT.  We had 5.5 tables at the beginner's lesson where we discussed opening one of a suit and responding to opening one of a suit.  One pair had to leave, so we had 5 full tables in our pupil game.

The Cullys were the winners with a huge 68.06%!  Second place went to Wynne and Betty with a very nice 56.25%.  Close behind in third was the John Safford and Martha R pair with 54.86%.  I will be here next week, but Suzanne will be taking the beginners class on the day after Labor Day as I am off to play in a regional for that week.

This Saturday will be the "Boot Camp" of 27 boards to discuss or until 4 PM, whichever comes first.  It starts at 10AM and has a fee of $15.  No need to sign up in advance, just show up with $15 and you can participate.

 Saturday 7 August 2024

If you want to spend a day talking about, and hopefully learning about, bidding and play of bridge hands, come to the third Bridge Boot Camp next Saturday, August 17 at Centennial Hall.  It begins at 10 AM and goes until 4PM, or until 27 hands have been discussed.  The fee is $15 and bring your lunch as we will have a short break for lunch around Noon. A printed summary of my analysis of the hands will be provided at the end of the session.  Be sure to remind me, as I might forget to pass it out. (I did at the first one.)  See you there!  ---Carl

 Open Game 8 August 2024

We had a very nice 6-1/2 Table Howell movement today for our NAP pairs game.  I was happy to see Bill Boatwright and Jack Sulger and returning players John Silva and Brenda Tanfield.  Congratulations to Susan/Lisa who are having a fabulous week and also to Bill and Mary who continue to win.

Next week's lesson is on 2-way Drury.

Wednesday August 7, 2024 Fun Game,  Today we had a gorgeous late summer day and had 6 full talbles.  We played a Howell movement with 8 rounds of 3 boards each.  Everybody did a great job and we had a lot of fun despite the heavy metal accompaniment from Centennial halls HVAC ensemble!

We welcomed  a new member of our club - Colleen Bakker.  She plays Goren bridge and is looking for someone who knows Goren, if possible.  She attended the beginner lessons on August 6th and decided she would wait until they got to the correct level.

The front runners were Dave and Jane, followed by  Claire and Mary Lynn, Bobbi and Sid.  Then Pat and Sherry and Susanne (back from bridge camp)and Paul!

You all did very well!  Hope you had as much fun as I did.

Suzanne
